Planning your wedding in Cork?
Whether you picture yourselves saying “I do” in a candlelit castle or beneath leafy trees with birdsong in the background, Cork has something magical for every kind of couple. As someone lucky enough to witness love stories unfold in some of Ireland’s most breathtaking venues, I’ve grown to appreciate how much the location shapes the whole experience—not just on the day itself, but forever through the photos and films you’ll return to for years to come.
So here it is: a lovingly gathered list of my 10 favourite Cork wedding venues. These are places that feel cinematic without trying too hard. They offer soft light, space to breathe, a bit of character, and plenty of soul. And they look as good on camera as they do in the moment.
1. Ballyvolane House
This one has my heart. A Georgian country house surrounded by wild gardens and a tipi marquee, it’s a relaxed kind of luxury. Perfect for couples who want something intimate, full of charm, and alive with texture. The way the light hits the trees in the evening? Pure poetry. I’ve filmed here a few times and it never gets old. watch here.
2. The River Lee Hotel
Modern, classy, and right in the heart of Cork City. With sleek architecture, giant windows, and the river flowing just outside, it’s ideal for urban weddings with a stylish twist. I love how the moody tones contrast with the natural light—makes for a beautifully balanced visual story, whether it’s film or photos.
3. Castlemartyr Resort
A peaceful gem tucked into West Cork. With a private lake, ancient trees, and the famous Sky Garden Crater, Liss Ard is pure serenity. It’s the kind of venue that invites you to slow down and be present—perfect for capturing honest moments and emotional storytelling. Bonus: it looks like a dream in both drone shots and stills.
4. Ballymaloe House
A beautiful mix of culture, creativity, and calm. Known for its food and gardens, Ballymaloe has a quiet charm that invites deep connection. It’s not flashy—it’s heartfelt. And that comes through clearly in every image and every frame.
5. Ballinacurra House
If you love a bit of flair and fun, this one’s for you. Every room has its own personality, and the gardens are made for celebration. I’ve filmed entire weekend weddings here where the energy just never stops. It’s private, colourful, and totally unforgettable.
6. Inish Beg Estate
Private island energy with woodland paths, water views, and wild light. It’s a little world of its own—and one of my favourite places for creating moody, magical scenes. The soft, shifting light through the trees is a cinematographer’s dream.
7. Blackwater Castle
History, mystery, and a wild natural setting all in one. From the ancient tower to the wooded riverside, Blackwater Castle is rich with atmosphere. I love how it lends itself to more dramatic storytelling—perfect for couples who want something cinematic but grounded.
8. Gougane Barra Hotel
Tucked beside a lake and backed by mountains, Gougane Barra is iconic for a reason. The chapel is something out of a fairytale, especially at golden hour. I’ve captured quiet elopements here that still give me goosebumps when I look back at the footage.
9. Dripsey Castle Estate
This venue feels like a secret. With 400-year-old castle ruins, forest trails, and a river weaving through the property, it’s deeply romantic. There’s something raw and untouched about it that adds soul to every frame. It's one of those places where stories practically tell themselves.
10. Liss Ard Estate
Nestled near Skibbereen in West Cork, Liss Ard Estate is an elegant country retreat surrounded by woodlands, gardens, and a private lake. With a beautifully restored Georgian manor and the iconic Sky Garden Crater, it offers a breathtaking and serene setting for weddings. The ever-changing light and secluded natural spaces are ideal for emotional, cinematic storytelling in both film and photography.
Tips for Choosing a Photo & Film Friendly Venue
Look for venues with varied natural light (outdoor ceremony spaces, big windows, shaded gardens).
Think about weather backup options—covered courtyards or conservatories with good light.
Ask your photographer/filmmaker (me!) how the space lends itself to storytelling.
